When it comes to party boat hire in Melbourne there’s an undiscovered range of options sure to suit any occasion. Ask any Australian what they think of when they think of Melbourne, among the answers will be cafes, restaurants, trams, the MCG, the Great Ocean Drive, The AFL, Greeks, Crown and more. Unbeknownst to most, a fleet of commercial charter boats is a hiding right in the middle of the countries fastest growing city. The vessels are the gateway to Melbourne’s vast waterways. From the Yarra and Maribyrnong Rivers to Port Phillip Bay and for any occasion there is a Charter boat perfect for any event, large or small. From Party Boats for birthdays, hens and bucks celebrations to purpose built river cruises designed to explore the rivers.
Nestled close to the heart of the city and surrounded by architectural masterpieces and the Emirates Stadium, Melbourne’s charter boat fleet calls Docklands home. Walking distance from the city, bus and train terminals, Docklands is easily accessed no matter where you are coming from. The Port Phillip Ferry Terminal is also located in the same harbour and Crown Casino a short walk to the South East.
Each charter boat has a unique story to tell. From near and far, they each have their own charm and history and how they came to call Melbourne their home port. The community of operators all work hard to offer customers great value and memorable experiences. Prices are often as low as a hundred dollars a head including food and beverages which lets face it, you would spend that per head at most bars or venues without the luxury of cruising the waterways.
We have put together the following list of Charter Boats operating in the Melbourne waterways. Please enjoy the read and let us know if we have missed any out or any other feed back you feel may be useful. We are very happy to add further boats, details or images .

The vessel is a replica of John Pascoe Fawkner’s Schooner Enterprize which sailed from Van Diemen’s Land in 1835 holding the City of Melbourne’s first white settlers! She was wrecked on the bar of the Richmond River in northern New South Wales in 1847, killing two people who were on board.
The 45 foot Enterprize replica was constructed in 1997 using only Australian and New Zealand grown timers, she is single decked, square transomed, with crossing yards on her foremast. She was constructed by naval architects and shipwrights using only a few paintings and sketches of the original Enterprize as there were no copies of the original plans, this was not easy as they were determined for the replica to be as close to the original of possible. The same as the original the sails were hand sewn from flax cloth imported from Scotland and the running rigging made from natural hemp fibre imported from Holland with a coating of Stockholm tar.
The ship is run by a group of over 300 volunteers and a handful of staff as a non-profit organisation. They aim to spark interest and adventurous spirit with an authentic 1830’s sailing experience exploring Melbourne’s maritime past. They offer public sails of ports around Port Phillip Bay during the day and evenings, often the daytime tours are filled with students keen to learn more about nineteenth century sailing ships.
